Bob Dylan - You Wanna Ramble (Knocked Out Loaded)

Well I told my baby
I said Baby, I know where you been
Well, I know who you are
And what league you played in?
You wanna ramble
To the break of dawn
You wanna ramble
To the break of dawn
You wanna ramble
To the break of dawn.

Well, the night is so empty
So quit and still
For only fifteen hundred dollars
You can have anybody killed
You wanna ramble
To the break of dawn
You wanna ramble
To the break of dawn
You wanna ramble
To the break of dawn.

Well, I told my baby
Further down the line
I said, ?What happens tomorrow
Is on your head, not mine?
You wanna ramble
To the break of dawn
You wanna ramble
To the break of dawn
You wanna ramble
To the break of dawn.

I think my favorite thing about this song is that, to me, it takes the source material of a song about literal slavery and makes it a song about the way that existence itself can sometimes seem like a form of slavery - we have not chosen to be born, and we can't control when we will die, and we are force throughout life to do so many things that we would prefer not to do, but there are a variety of ways we can try to transcend this condition, and he is enacting one of them - escape through art.

to hell with people who say Dylan sucks cos he can't sing if GOOD music was defined by vocal talent it'd be x-factor winners that would be constantly passed on generation to generation. luckily these people drop like flies once the money dries out yet the true great artists remain.Howling Wolf, Robert Johnsonetc. their music set the 20th century onfire! yet on a technical level god they need vocal lessons. but screw all this technicality...music comes from the soul not the vocalbox.
